Ralph Waldo Emerson
A study has found that just 30 minutes of light bar trauma work can improve sleep and reduce the severity of PTSD symptoms. Imagine what an hour of light bar work can do to release past trauma.
For those of you that are unfamiliar, a light bar is a tool that can be set up in a practitioner's office. It is a literal metal or plastic bar positioned on top if a tripod with LED lights that "sweep" back and forth, eliciting in the client the bilateral eye movements that are associated with changing negative thoughts and reprocessing and looking at a traumatic event in a more positive and perhaps a more realistic manner. A practitioner may choose to hold the bar in their hand and move it back and forth with the same results.
Light bars provide great illumination and a better working environment without increasing glare and discomfort for the client.
“As a treatment for a psychiatric problem, which includes trauma, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem, light therapy has a remarkably high success rate of 60–80%,” (“says Brainard. Jan 2, 2016.”)
Bilateral stimulation, which is accomplished by watching the light bar is believed to activate the brain’s information processing systems and facilitate the reorganization of traumatic memory.
What watching the light bar succeeds in accomplishing is to keep the logical mind busy and distracted. Our logical mind is where our psychological defenses are stored, and where we hold the blockages to facing our traumas and fears due to the mind’s “protective” role. However, releasing the logical mind’s hold over us actually frees us to heal in a much quicker time frame. There is no danger in freeing the logical mind and the person will never encounter more memories and/or emotions and feelings that they can tolerate, so there is no worry about allowing our subconscious memories and feelings to arise, while the “logical mind” is distracted. In truth, it is those subconscious memories that keep us bound up in our unhealthy behaviors and keeps us engaged with our unhealthy and restricting fears. The individual is always in control and can stop the process at any time.
Light bar work is often connected with the EMDR practice (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). However, there are many uses for the light bar, even some forms which are used in dermatology.
Light Bar Trauma work when combined with art and/or a person’s spiritual component, has a monumental and profound effect on a person’s life in a relatively short period of time. It is not necessary to combine them, however it provides a deeper understanding for the individual. This form of work is much faster than simple talk therapy, as it gains quicker access to a person’s subconscious memories which would normally possibly take years with standard counseling.
I have used this form of counseling for over five (5) years and have found it exceedingly helpful, calming and relieving for clients who suffer from trauma, anxiety, fear, low self-esteem, and depression as well as many other symptoms.
Please don’t hesitate to call 480-430-6324 to get your questions answered. There will be a short questionnaire to assess your suitability for this type of trauma work, and after that the work can begin immediately. It is recommended that a strong commitment on your part be made to yourself and to the work. You can also send an email to starroad@aol.com to request more information and to discuss the questionnaire.

Who We Are -The Home of Record Project
Our Story
Founded in 2023, the Home of Record Project is the result of collaboration of everyday veterans who understand what it’s like to be in crisis. Our journey began with a simple yet powerful idea – to fill the gaps where state and federal resources fall short and provide housing and aid to veterans experiencing homelessness or those on the verge of homelessness. Over time, our vision expanded, and today, we are committed to offering comprehensive housing assistance and financial stability grants that address the unique challenges and goals of each veteran.
Welcome to the Home of Record Project, a passionate initiative dedicated to honoring and empowering our nation’s veterans. Our journey began with a profound commitment to the well-being of those who have bravely served our country and are addressing the crisis that can occur after service. Inspired by principles of compassion and service the Home of Record Project is more than a non-profit; it is a community-driven sanctuary for veterans seeking support, understanding, and opportunities for a successful civilian life.
Our Origin Story
Founded in 2023, HRP was a result of its founder Gary Schell experiencing his own crisis. Confronted with a simultaneous cancer diagnosis and divorce, Gary found himself in a dire situation and compelled to seek resources for support. After navigating his own journey Gary was inspired to help assist other veterans dealing with crisis. Gary spent a year speaking directly with veterans in Arizona to understand their needs and challenges.
Armed with the insights gained from this experience, Gary established the Home of Record Project. With a steadfast dedication to assisting veterans at their most crucial juncture—home—the nonprofit stands as a beacon of support and resilience. Uniquely positioned through Gary’s firsthand understanding and real estate background, HRP is committed to addressing the pressing needs of veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of facing such challenges. In essence, The Home of Record Project represents Gary Schell’s transformative journey into an unwavering commitment to serve those who have served.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide comprehensive housing assistance, financial stability grants, and social support services to veterans in need. We aim to fill the gaps where state and federal resources fall short, helping veterans regain stability, improve their overall well-being, and reintegrate into society as valued and empowered individuals.
Individual Counseling - Arno Testing
Victoria offers one-on-one and group counseling sessions using the state of the art ARNO Temperament Profile tool.
The ARNO Temperament Profile Inventory (sometimes called the ARNO Temperament Inventory) reveals the "hidden problems" that normally take a person in counseling seven or eight sessions to identify. Presently over 3,000 counselors are using this system in their counseling efforts, saving hours and weeks of counseling time and money for their clients.
The ARNO Temperament Profile Inventory does not measure a person's behavior; it identifies a person's inborn temperament. Who we were created to be and who we become through learned behavior can be entirely different. We need to find out who we really are and find ways to become the person we were born to be. Our true self, instead of the person we have learned to be (the masked self).
As mentioned earlier, this Inventory will save the counselor and client much time and money as the reports come directly to the point without delaying the final outcome, thus creating a shorter counseling time with deep and lasting results. The questionnaire, which takes 8-10 minutes, has 60 questions with results in the form of a Clinical, Personal, Personnel or Youth report, depending on each client's needs. This system enables the counselor to get at the client's root problem, faster and more accurately.
